M’illumino di Meno: turning off the lights to turn on awareness
News - 16 February 2025
Every year, on February 16th, we celebrate M’illumino di Meno, a day dedicated to energy conservation and sustainable living.
But where did this initiative come from?
M’illumino di Meno was launched in 2005 by the Caterpillar radio show on Radio 2, with the goal of raising awareness about the importance of saving energy and living more sustainably. The idea is simple yet powerful: turn off the lights for a few minutes as a symbolic gesture to reflect on how even the smallest daily actions can have a huge impact.
Over the years, M’illumino di Meno has grown into a true movement, encouraging individuals, schools, businesses, and institutions to take concrete actions for the future of our planet:
Turning off lights when they’re not needed.
Reducing energy waste.
Walking or cycling instead of driving.
Supporting a circular economy.
It’s not just about turning off a light—it’s about turning on a new awareness of how we live and how we can change to build a better future.
This year, Un Sacco Pulito is joining this initiative because saving energy and protecting the planet go hand in hand. Every action matters, and together we can make a difference.
Let’s turn off the lights. Let’s turn on the future.
